She crossed the line in her/his? society's eyes. I'd vote for "Jean" as the patron saint of all trans people. posted by: Cutter (reply) post date: 02.25.07 (8:41 am) p.s. - I wish that the English language was one which did not polarize things by sex and gender. ...and I wish, since we can't seem to change that, that I knew whether "Jean D'Arc" would have preferred "he" to "she". Either way, Jean (or Joan, or even John) was an INCREDILE PERSON. posted by: Cutter (reply) post date: 02.25.07 (8:42 am) (I meant "incrediBle" - sorry. posted by: unmutual (reply) post date: 02.27.07 (5:52 am) She was an incredible person living in a time that was incredibly set against empowering women. The movie, despite being directed by Luc Besson, walks the line between Joan being a saint and being crazy. He doesn't take a stance either way, giving ample proof for both scenarios, ultimately leaving it up to the audience to decide. Saintly, crazy or not, she achieved some amazing feats, against some of the worst odds. posted by: LadyG (reply) post date: 03.01.07 (12:16 am) She was a really incredible person. |
